sherpa with a purse: maart 2007

I have (semi-) good news! I called the director of one of the grad programs I applied to and I have a really, really good chance of getting in! I should know in about 2 weeks. And the best part? They offer funding.

It's a huge ego boost, especially since I've been having such a crappy time lately.

The grad school news isn't so great - I'm still only admitted to Northeastern, and still no funding. I got the "official" rejection letter from UPenn today, but I knew about 6 weeks ago that I was rejected. And I got rejected from UMass, which was completely unexpected.

So, I'm just waiting on 3 programs now: CUNY, NYU (Psych), and UPenn. I doubt I'm in anywhere, as it's really, really late to hear back from Penn. CUNY doesn't really offer funding. No clue what's going on with the NYU program. So yeah. No clue what I'm doing with my life. Any ideas?

Yesterday was the first tornado siren of the year, which means that it's almost summertime! We heard it when the cats were at the vet. Apparently the cats have gingivitis and need to be on a special diet to alleviate plaque and tartar and stuff. They need to be on this diet permanently. The food is expensive (as in $15 for a 10lb. bag). wtf.

Interviewed at the mortgage call center place today...yeeaaahhh..."laid back" atmosphere doesn't beign to describe it. Think of 3-4 guys sitting around in the basement of some office building hand-dialing phone numbers from a list of people. The pay is decent, and it would only be 2 nights a week, so maybe I'll try it and see how it goes (until I can find something more...?). It's a bit different from selling subscriptions to the MSO while staring out at the lake...but it might work.

Tomorrow I have 2 job interviews - one is at a temp agency for random office jobs and the other is at an outbound call center for a mortgage company. I've done outbound call center jobs before and it was OK, most of the time people don't even answer the phone. I guess at this place you get huge bonuses (like up to $30/hr) depending on how much you sell (or how many offers you get, or whatever).

In other news, the turkey is almost all gone. I had to cook it. I didn't have people over, and it's kinda good that I didn't. Cooking a turkey was way more work than I expected and I didn't exactly carve it to Thanksgiving-dinner-perfection. Next time someone gives me a turkey, though, I'll have people over. It's gotta be easier the second time around!

You Belong in the East Village

A little bit arty, a little bit punk - you seem to set trends that many people follow.
It's likely that you're an academic of sorts, even if it's just on the weekends.

Neko Case is coming to Madison!

The waiting continues, no grad school news.

It's snowing and blowing outside, I almost slid into a snowbank outside of Whole Foods while driving home from work today.
