sherpa with a purse: april 2005

a have a paper due on wednesday. i haven't started it. i figure i'll just stay up all night tomorrow drinking coffee and eating bagels and listening to music really really loudly to keep myself awake. yeah, that's more fun than starting on time. and besides, i only have about 2 more weeks left of college, and i don't think i've had my share of all-nighters. way to procrastinate.

going to the asshole eye doc tomorrow morning. the last pair of contacts he gave me also didn't work. (they worked, but everything was kinda hazy).

made bowls.

had my last orchestra rehearsal tonight.

done with the grad announcements.

found out about a job today, i may be employed this summer.

do i want these next two weeks to fly by?

issues with the blog

attempting to re-vamp the blog and make it pretty and non-generic. well, colette is doing most of the work, i'm just dictating what to do. :) my html skills aren't on par with hers. i'm learning - slowly.

tutoring is great. at first i thought that i would dread having a 10 am session, but it's great since we didn't do anything and i'm awake and (sorta) working at 11 am. much better than yesterday, when i didn't do anything school-related before 6pm. and then i only looked up some articles. blah.

still have tons of papers and other random crap to do. but still, i just want to read Power of Babel and make bowls.

it's really windy, the lake looks like the ocean. it's so choppy (there are actual white caps) and a blue-ish/green-ish/gray-ish color. i felt like i was going to fall over when i was biking to the psych building today. and i was only going about 9 miles an hour instead of the normal 15 mph. and i'm wearing a sweater today. i thought it was supposed to be spring? wisconsin. blah.

lunch with jikke later, then writing papers about parenting and the paradox of suburbanization all day long. fabulous. 2 weeks left. shit.

earth day = free coffee at starbucks. yay.

it also means that it's april 22 and i'm graduating in about 3 weeks. and i have about 2 weeks to write one research paper, one literary analysis paper on a novel i haven't finished yet, one essay on the paradox of suburbanization (huh?), and 3-4 final essays on "modern american communities." i have absolutely NO motivation and don't want to do anything except make bowls, read The Power of Babel, develop pictures, sleep, and play my violin.

one more hour of watching copy machines/writing my paper that was due yesterday. yay!

blurg. in the lab on a beautiful saturday, just ran this kid who has already been in like 15 or so experiments, including this one, before. thanks for telling us beforehand. blah. freshmen.

anyway, its nice outside. i'm tired. and cranky. played lots of sims last night, stayed up way too late, and now i just want to go to bed instead of play outside. or play outside instead of doing the million things i have lined up in front of me.

i really need to read that novel for e. europe - i've been carrying around that damn book all semester (really...the edges are worn and there are coffee stains all over it) but haven't read more than 2 chapters. the paper is due in about 2 weeks. literary analysis. huh? i'm a psych major, i analyze people and myself (too much, i might add), not novels. blah.

i get to start wearing contacts again today. the eye doctor (shady!) is trying to sell me some fancy "aspheric" (way to talk down to your clients, asshole) lenses, and also bumped my prescription WAY up. so if i start walking into things, getting nauseous, or looking dazed, that's why.

i remember why i hate mopeds and the little blonde people that drive them today. i was in the bike lane on university ave @ murray st. and a lil blonde girl on a big ass moped scoots perpendicularly into the bike lane and practically runs me over. she was literally about an inch from running my birkenstock-clad foot over with her moped before i came to a complete stop and almost flipped over my bike. all she could do was say "sorry...sorry...sorry" as she scooted on her moped over to vilas. i was ready to start bitching at her but she was gone. why do moped drivers think they can go anywhere - bike lane, sidewalk - they want?! and do people really need mopeds?

i'm bitter, but at least my feet are intact.

anyway - 5 weeks and 2 days (!!!!!) till graduation. still no job. have a few prospects, i'll be applying for jobs in boston, nyc and dc. i need to get out of madison for a while. summer will be busy, with a job somewhere around here that pays lots and doesn't require lots of hours (riiiight - still looking for that one) and lots of sailing and sitting on my pier (yes - my pier). it will definitely be interesting to see what happens - i've been slowly drifting away from friends for various reasons. i'm expecting more drama or none at all. and at this point i'm not sure which way i'm leaning.
