i bet you're wondering if the goddesses are all crazy or just keeping it interesting...

working working working...for one more day. my final massive lit search for my lovely boss Sudi, who took me out to lunch yesterday and gave me a VERY gernerous gift card to Whole Foods. I can finally buy one of those fancy Zyliss parmesean cheese graters. yay! I'll be running around campus all day photocopying articles, then heading up to Howard's Grove for Dana's grad. party. thank GOD I'm getting a ride back from someone who isn't psycho. someone refused to let me tag along on the ride back to the Milwaukee area with them - i guess my liberal mindedness and intelligence would have been too much for him to handle for the hour long drive. but, i dont think i would be able to handle listening to whitesnake and shitty pop-rap the whole way back in a car emblazoned with GWB stickers, so i guess we both made out pretty well.

i won't be working at the "research participation core" at the waisman center. which is horrible - rejected for a clerical job? ouch. i guess i'm less qualified than i thought i was.

well, milio's subs is hiring...

And now, a message from FPAC

weapons in space...?!

so now we're going to put weapons in space, too. wtf?! WHY does the US think it is the boss of the world? what if china, or russia, or n. korea, or, hell, CANADA decided to do this? would we allow them? no. so why is the US allowed to?

this quiz proves it - i'm an idealist.
thanks colette.

You scored as Idealist. Idealism centers around the belief that we are moving towards something greater. An odd mix of evolutionist and spiritualist, you see the divine within ourselves, waiting to emerge over time. Many religious traditions express how the divine spirit lost its identity, thus creating our world of turmoil, but in time it will find itself and all things will again become one.

i'm DONE. finished my final soc paper, then practically collapsed from exhaustion.

still waiting to hear back from the jobs, (good interview earlier this week)...as of now, no plans after sunday. :) it's actually kind of nice.

copy-centering for a little while more, then helping colette pack. ugh. i HATE packing. moving also sucks. i heard that i'm getting some gerbils tomorrow - that should be interesting. i don't like little animals that live in cages, even though frida and diego are cute.

how much is one's GPA a reflection of intelligence or knowledge of a subject? i got turned down for a job today because i have a 3.42 GPA, and they wanted someone with a 3.5 or higher. what would change if my GPA was .08 higher? i have worked my ass off in my lab, managed 3 projects - including training RA's, have helped with data collection on how many other research projects, done data analysis, tutored people, presented my research how many times...taken 16-18 credits a semester - EVERY SEMESTER (except when i needed to get away and ran off to europe for a semester) - AND worked at least 12 hours a week to pay the rent, not to buy clothes and beer. i practically live in the psych building, but because i got a D in algebra freshman year, i'm less qualified for a job? i bet there are tons of people with fabulous GPA's who have no research experience, does that make them more qualified? smarter than me? because they know how to take exams or kiss ass? because they went to a high school that actually prepared them for college? maybe it does. maybe i should have spent more time memorizing facts, sucking up/whining to profs, and worrying about my GPA than actually being active and involved in my field.

instead of writing my 4 essays, editing my e. europe paper, or doing the readings from the past 4 weeks of soc, i applied for 2 jobs and organized my photos on my computer and flickr (tags are great).

i'm done. i dont really care. i had great intentions when i came to the copy center, i really wanted to get my work done. but the thrill of organizing photos was much more enticing than reading.

and what do i care? i'm graduating anyway. right? right!? ahh!

yesterday...

*late for class
*email and phone call from financial office, somehow i owe them $900, since i got a scholarship
*breakdown #1 in my lab
*bitch about money/financial aid/life with prof
*emotional breakdown #2 in ta's office after asking for paper extension (which i can't get, since she's getting married on saturday...)
*breakdown #3 in lab, enter prof and grad students offering to make tea and cheer me up
*lots of class
*sorta-good-news-ish emails (job interview? chicago? 2 new jobs in the psych dept at madison? huh?!)
*mcnair graduation...crazy impromptu, unprepared, rambling speech thanking everyone that i saw in the room in no particular order. forgetting to thank lots of people and failing to acknowledge the fact that i have been in mcnair for 3.5 years and would not be where i am without it
*great news from the prof ($$!)
*strange eastern european movie (i have yet to watch an eastern european film that is not confusing and that doesnt have at least two scenes including bombing and explicit sex)
*write one of the worse papers i ever, on that novel that i've been "reading" all semester.

i dont feel like writing in sentences. big paper due tomorrow, starting it today. fun. no, not really.

yerba mate and free internet make me happy.

memories of mohair sweaters, stretched and pilled from distressed leathers...

i...applied for jobs. 6 of them. 2 in madison, 4 in chicago, at northwestern. at the med school, of all palces. (behavioral science dept.)

shit. this means that i might have a job. while i do need one (someone has to pay the rent) i really don't want to work. i think i just want to be in school, writing papers and reading. as much as i complain about it, i really do love it. at least i'll be working at a university, aurrounded by academic types. but clerical work? eww. i might learn how to do fMRI - which means that i would probably have to be in the fMRI tube (and get pictures of my brain!). or, i may be managing databases of participants. eww. that would be like the worst part of working in my lab, but full time. oh well, i chose to "take a year off." hopefully it will only be 6 months or so, then i can go live in the NL for a bit, be a travel bum in eastern europe, ride the trans-siberian railroad, then come back to the states for grad school.

but now, i have to write a paper.
