The past 2 days have been spring-like, it's such a tease. I was finally able to drag my bike out of the basement and bike down to work. I ended up biking about 5 miles yesterday and it was great. It got a bit cold (and icy!) on the way home last night but it was great - and I loved that I didn't have to wait for the bus or anything. I went to Cafe Porta Alba (the pizza's pretty good, but I felt like it was overpriced) with a friend who I met in Utrecht and haven't seen for a long time. We used to travel a lot together (sleeping in airports in Dublin...wandering away from tour groups in Ireland...) but we drifted apart after returning to Madison. It was great to see her, I really need to be more social. I've been cooped up in the house so long working on my grad school apps that I haven't had the time (or the motivation) to do anything besides lie around. So - my plan is to make a turkey dinner sometime in the next week or so and invite people over. My mom gave me a turkey last weekend (and by "gave" I mean demanded that I take the turkey home with me so that she could finally have her freezer back) and I'm going to attempt to make a full Thanksgiving-esque dinner, which should be extremely interesting, especially since some people have closets that are larger than our kitchen.

So, the point of this post is the crazy winter storm warning we're under right now:

MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL FALL TONIGHT AND EARLY SATURDAY. THIS SNOW WILL PRECEDE THE HEAVIER SNOW SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING. SNOW AMOUNTS OF 6 TO 9 INCHES ARE LIKELY BY SATURDAY MORNING. BRISK EAST WINDS OF 15 TO 25 MPH WILL CAUSE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. A WINTER STORM WATCH IS ISSUED WHEN HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED TO ACCUMULATE TO LEVELS THAT WILL CAUSE MAJOR IMPACTS TO COMMERCE AND SOCIETY.

6 to 9 inches of snow tonight will precede the heavier snow tomorrow night. wtf! I think 6 to 9 inches of snow is indicative of a pretty heavy snowfall. My favorite part of the warning is the part about how the snow will cause major impacts to commerce and society. It sounds like a research report - The Effect of Snow on Commerce and Society. Maybe one of my students should do that for their IP.

Hehe, that's hilarious. I hate it when weather affects society! The snowfall last night wasn't that bad (they say 6 inches, I guess) because the snow plow went down our road at noon. At noon! As opposed to, well, at never o'clock for any other snowfall this year. Go snowplows!
