maybe we should move to South Africa

Wow. I thought that the people of Wisconsin were smarter than that. We've got a progressive history here. I'm stunned that people failed to see how ridiculous it is to completely outlaw any type of legal recognition for two adults in a relationship of mutual support. What kind of regressive society are we living in that actually re-writes the fucking state constitution to limit people's rights?! (Not that this country hasn't limited people's rights before...but I thought the whole 14th amendment/Civil Rights Act of 1964 was supposed to stop that...then again, it's ok to treat gay people like crap because of the whole "protected class" issue.) What is going to happen to "traditional marriage" if gay folks are allowed to be on their partner's health insurance plan or get their social security benefits? "Traditional marriage" is already in shambles - less than half of Americans are married, of those that are married half of them will be divorced. Hell, Britney Spears is getting her second divorce.

And how did we vote FOR the death penalty?! Granted, we didn't exactly vote to bring back the death penalty (it's been outlawed in WI since 1853) but to allow executions in murder cases in which DNA evidence is produced. Most developed countries (and some developing countries) have banned executions. As one of my Dutch roommates said 3 years ago, this is the beginning of the end of America as we know it.

Where is Wisconsin (and more importantly, this country) headed? We talk about preserving family values, but only if they are in the type of family that they want to see. We want to be moral but yet will kill rather than lock up a criminal.

The greatest tragedy in mankind's entire history may be the hijacking of morality by religion. (thanks, Dan)

I keep thinking that maybe if I refresh the voting results now that suddenly it will have swung to 80% no, or something. :(
